Preview: MEDICA 2011

Healing, therapies and prevention – in the not-too-distant future, technologies worn on and inside the body will help us get healthy and stay healthy. In the areas of prevention and outpatient therapies, Wearable Technologies and their connection with telemetry systems will offer new and cost effective possibilities.

Still basking in the glow of last year’s successful WTshow at the MEDICA, we are going back for what we know will be another great show. The following exhibitors await you at the MEDICA this year:

7Layers AG – supports manufacturers who are integrating wireless technologies into their smart products with test solutions, antenna and module integration, test services, global certification and type approval

BIONESS – offers technologically advanced medical devices designed to benefit people with Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis, Traumatic Brain Injury, Cerebral Palsy, and Spinal Cord Injury. It includes the NESS L300® Plus to restore the movement of the knee joint, the foot and ankle and the NESS H200® to activate the hand and forearm. These products use wireless Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES) to help people regain mobility and independence, to improve quality of life and productivity.

BLUEGIGA – Bluegiga eHealth Bluetooth Gateways, Modules and Bluetooth low energy modules help to shorten development cycles and improve the time to market. Bluegiga’s software and firmware support the latest medical and health standards, and can be easily integrated and customized for different applications.

BLUETOOTH SIG – Bluetooth technology is the ideal wireless technology for connected health and fitness devices because it’s simple, secure and everywhere. Bluetooth v4.0 with low energy, the newest version of the specification, makes the transfer of vital data in the medical field even more efficient and less power consuming. Stop by and see how Bluetooth technology is improving latest mobile health solutions and how you can best benefit from the use of Bluetooth wireless technology in healthcare.

BODYTEL – BodyTel products support patients with home diagnostics for chronic illnesses, prevention, and lifestyle changes. The key is the automatic documentation and transfer of the measured body values (blood glucose, blood pressure and weight) as well as the simple recording of relevant additional information and thus the development of complete patient files. The system enables active measures to be taken before or during situations which require intervention.

CSEM – cost-effective and Miniaturized system-on-chip based solutions for portable medical & BAN applications. At the Medica CSEM will demonstrate some of the technology platforms being developed at CSEM including ultra low power system on chip, high availability low power wireless protocols and body-worn wireless module integration and show some innovative examples of how these technologies are reaching the market.

FRAUNHOFER IIS – the number one healing method of the 21st century is movement –not only as part of a rehabilitation program, but also to maintain physical fitness. Sensors incorporated into articles of clothing register exercise statistics and analyze them. Via TV screen or computer monitor, the wearer is informed of the quality of his or her exercise session. The intelligent assistance system promotes and preserves cognitive and motor skills, especially for elderly people. It makes a long, independent life at home possible.

FREESCALE – is the global leader in embedded processing solutions. From microprocessors and microcontrollers to sensors, analog ICs and connectivity – Freescale’s technologies are the foundation to the innovations that make our world greener, safer, healthier and more connected.

LAIRD TECHNOLOGIES – is the world’s leading designer and manufacturer of electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding, telematics, thermal management and antenna solutions for the telecom, datacom, computer, electronics, aerospace, defense, automotive, industrial & instrumentation, medical equipment, mining and railroad industries.

MINDTREE  – is a global leader in the Bluetooth® Low Energy (BLE) domain, and through its suite of mature and product proven intellectual property (IP), it offers OEMs and semiconductor providers a quick and easy path to creating ultra-low power, differentiated and robust devices for the wearable domain. MindTree will demonstrate its BLE and complementary components for personal health and lifestyle body-area applications at the WTshow.

NUUBO – will present their dynamic ECG platform. A new-generation proprietary wireless remote monitoring platform, which consists of a non-invasive and single-lead dynamic ECG system that incorporates biomedical e-textile technology.

SPORTSCURVE – designs and implements system solutions, adapted to meet customer needs. In doing so, innovative Body-to-Machine (B2M) and Machine-to-Web (M2W) solutions are developed. sportsCurve uses its longtime experience and know-how in the field of sports and fitness to serve the health care market.

TEXRAY/AIQ – will present their smart clothing unit AiQ. Health care at home is the prime focus for the next generation of clinical care. Decentralized home care does not only increase the efficiency of health care, but also reduces health insurance costs. AiQ’s unique wearable solution BioMan uses modern information technology combined with wearable electrodes and can give an overview about important vital signs such as ECG and other vital data.

VARTA Microbattery – has over 120 years experience in engineering, manufacturing and sales of different rechargeable and primary battery systems worldwide. As original equipment manufacturer and battery designer Varta is particularly focusing on system supply of miniature battery technologies for state of the art mobile communication, medical and electronic equipment.
