Fall 2013 has been big with regards to launching new sports and activity trackers. However, these devices are intended to be worn almost 24/7, instead of only during workouts or other physical activities, with more tracking features than any device offered ever before in one single product.
First launched in early 2012, the Nike+ FuelBand tracks all day movement using the virtual “currency” NikeFuel. The new Nike+ FuelBand SE builds on design and experience and delivers even more information and motivation to keep users moving. Bluetooth 4.0 technology connects the wristband automatically and seamlessly with the Nike+ FuelBand App. Improved water resistance and a seamless design allow the Nike+ FuelBand SE to go almost anywhere. A redesigned circuit board provides greater flexibility and an internally-enhanced, simple one-button design drives the bright LED. Additionally to being launched in the U.S., the UK and Canada, the Nike+ FuelBand SE will also be available in France, Germany and Japan for the first time.
In addition to featuring a watch on its display the newly launched Fitbit Force tracks steps taken, distance traveled, calories burned, stairs climbed and active minutes throughout the day. At night it tracks sleep duration and quality. It also comes with a vibrating alarm that wakes the wearer silently. According to Fitbit, the wristband will soon feature incoming call notifications when a smartphone is nearby. The device also syncs wirelessly through Bluetooth 4.0 with a computer, iPhones (4S or higher) and selected Android devices (Samsung Galaxy III, Note II, and more). With selected NFC-enabled Android phones it is also possible to just tap the device and magically launch the app.
As the pioneer and world’s leader of heart rate monitoring and fitness evaluation equipment Polar launched a new wristband-type device in September as an addition to their wide range of sportswatches for runners. The smart bracelet called Polar Loop tracks daily activities and exercise levels. In combination with a free online service and app the tracker uses this information to suggest how to make small changes in lifestyle in order to improve health and wellbeing. Aside from tracking activities such as climbing stairs, riding waves or whatever makes the wearer move the device lets the user know, if non-activity-periods are getting too long.
Adidas on the other hand just introduced the miCoach SMART RUN a new wrist based running device that will be available from November 1. With this watch runners of will be able to track their run using GPS mapping, monitor their heart rate off their wrist, listen to their favorite music and get real-time coaching. The running watch comes with a color touch screen and includes strapless heart-rate monitoring featuring the technology of the MIO Global sports watch.
