Rochester Optical @ Wearable Technologies Conference unveils RO GOLD for Google Glass

Tim Moore from Rochester Optical today unveiled RO GOLD at the leading event for wearables, the Wearable Technologies conference 2014 Europe. RO GOLD are prescription glasses, optimized for Google Glass and come with a patented new frame, the so called Glass Prescription Lens Carrier (GPLC). Resembling regular glasses with a rigid structural chassis, the RO GOLD allows for the mounting of regular prescription lenses.

Unlike normal prescription lenses, which are not designed to optimize the visual acuity Google Glasses need, the RO GOLD allows prescription glass wearers to see the HUD as well as the rest of the world without difficulties. It also removes unwanted aberrations, enhances visual acuity, and reduces eye-strain and fatigue. RO GOLD allows for a wide variety of prescription powers, lens designs and materials to be mounted securely – and to fashion different frame shapes.

Huge news for the Smart Glasses industry – and, at the Wearable Technologies Conference 2014 Europe, we did get the chance to see RO GOLD live in action. We were delighted to be among the first to hear and see about this huge innovation, and  that we did get the chance to see one of the first RO GOLD in action.

RO GOLD lens will be available in three designs with three frames and different coatings. The lenses will start shipping in early February for $99 (RO GOLD digital single vision lenses), upgrades will be available as well. Rochester Optical’s Glass Prescription Lens Carriers (GPLC) will be $129 each.
