    Biography

    Greta Kreuzer is Co-Founder and CFO at cosinuss°, a start-up specialized on the development of wearable technologies in the ear and based in Munich, Germany. cosinuss° developed a technology, called earconnectTM, that enables the monitoring of heart rate, core body temperature and arterial oxygen saturation of the blood in the ear. Based on this technology, cosinuss° provides market specific wearables for sports, for health care and for worker´s safety.
    Greta´s background includes positions at Bosch, Yahoo! and Schreiner Group and was responsible for business development at a startup in the field of robotics. Now at cosinuss°, she is responsible for financing, innovation management and business creation. Greta holds a diploma degree in economics from the Technical University of Munich.

    As a life long heart patient, I did not want to be a victim of heart disease. Instead I wanted to pursue my desire to become an athlete and competitive cyclist. After having open heart surgery in 2010, doing any kind of physical activity was a frightening idea. Because of heart related wearable technologies, I had the information I needed to go from the hospital bed to the bike and on to the finish line of my first bike race. I started Tour de Heart to share how using technology + Medicine + Activity = Healthy Heart Patients and can give people their lives back. The goal of Tour de Heart is to change the perception of what people with heart disease are capable of achieving.

    Biography

    Etai Granit is the Founder and CEO of BitBite, an Automatic Dietary Recording System (ADRS) that combines a wearable tracking system with real-time analytics for direct-response, power-of-suggestion that helps consumers improve eating habits and achieve weight loss. Etai has over 18 years of entrepreneurial and R&D experience specifically in the tech industry, and was passionate about developing a technology that can help the world in today’s number one health problem: overweight & obesity. Prior to founding BitBite, Etai was the Founder & CEO of Infra-Ad, an ad server platform for Web advertisers and publishers based on search and behavioral targeting. While leading the company, Infra-Ad exceeded over $5 Million in revenue. From 2004-2010 Etai served as a field officer at Israel’s Prime Minister Office. He also served as a VP of Sales and VP of R&D at iMDsoft, a private company that develops and sells clinical information systems in intensive care units and operating rooms in hospitals worldwide. He began his career in tech as the CEO of Supermedia and hasn’t left the industry since. Outside of the office, Etai volunteers as the head of the local municipality committee in his hometown & serves as a mentor for young enterprenours. Etai holds a BA in Law from Tel Aviv University as well as a MBA from Ono Academic College. He is fluent in English, Hebrew and Arabic. Etai loves to play Tennis, travel around the world and read philosophic books.

    Biography

    As Director of Product Creation adidas Digital Sport, Drabble is responsible for leading and developing the overall marketing strategy for the interactive business unit. In this role, he drives the product development road map for the entire miCoach platform including consumer facing solutions (apps, devices, web services) as well as future solutions for the Team Sports business including the miCoach Elite Team System. Prior to leading the adidas miCoach creation team, Drabble has held key positions in international high technology industries including the mobile phone and sport and fitness monitoring technology sectors. Most recently, he was with Polar Electro Oy, a global market leader in heart rate monitor products, in various roles. Throughout his career, Drabble has gained vast experience in a variety of capacities including digital marketing, customer support, product education, account management, product management and strategic partnership management.

    Biography

    Neil is the EMEA Marketing Director for New Markets at Intel, based in Munich, Germany. He leads a new team responsible for Intel’s go-to-market activities for Wearables, Smartphones and the Internet of Things across Europe, Middle East and Africa. He has 20 years’ experience in consumer technology sales and marketing and in previous roles led Intel’s marketing efforts through all consumer channels, including retail, resellers and telco’s. Prior to Intel, he held senior sales and marketing roles at leading EMEA consumer electronics retailers. He holds an MBA from Durham University, specialising in International Marketing and Ecommerce and a first degree in Economics.

    Biography

    John Dwyer is VP Engineering & Technology Development for Consumer Technologies Group (CTG) at Flextronics (NASDAQ: FLEX). CTG services customers in the consumer electronics markets with a full offering of product development and supply chain capabilities. John has held various leadership roles within Flextronics over the last 13 years. He has 25 years industry experience in operations, manufacturing technologies, and product development with companies such as Honeywell, Motorola, and Newell-Rubbermaid. John holds an MBA from Northern Illinois University and a BS Industrial Engineering from Millikin University.

    Biography

    The concept for The Dash was created by Danish entrepreneur Nikolaj Hviid, a former CEO of an award winning design agency and former Head of Design at a global leading audio company: “I imagined a discrete assistant that would entertain and take care of me. Help to understand my body, and let me know when I had reached my limit. Help me to get better at what I do. ” says Nikolaj Hviid. “The Dash is as incredible as I imagined it would be.”

    Jiang Li, Vivalnk

    Biography

    Jiang has both passion and extensive experience in bringing innovative technology and products into the marketplace. He has held various senior management positions in both large high tech organizations and startup companies. Prior to joining VivaLnk, he was responsible for new product and technology development as the VP of engineering in Kovio and Thinfilm Electronics, leading printed electronics companies. Prior to that, he worked at AMD and the joint venture between AMD/Fujitsu, Spansion. As the VP of product engineering in Spansion, Jiang managed the major new product launches in Spansion. Jiang holds a Ph.D. degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and a bachelor’s degree from Zhejiang University in China.

    Biography

    Chantal is Marketing Director for the OEM and Consumer Electronics sales channel at Gemalto. She joined Gemalto in 2000 and has held since then various positions in sales, business development and marketing, serving notably as Field Marketing Manager for EMEA region and Segment Marketing Manager for Emerging Markets. In the course of her work, she has developed expertise in telecom and mobile services, as well as NFC payment and digital security. She holds a Master’s degree from Marseille's Kedge Business School.

  • Robert Riener, ETH Zurich & University of Zurich

    Robert Riener, ETH Zurich & University of Zurich

    Biography

    Robert Riener studied Mechanical Engineering at TUMünchen, Germany, and University of Maryland, USA. He received a Dr.-Ing. degree in Engineering from the TUMünchen in 1997. After postdoctoral work from 1998-1999 at the Centro di Bioingegneria, Politecnico di Milano, he returned to TU München, where he completed his Habilitationin the field of Biomechatronics in 2003. In 2003 he became assistant professor at ETH Zurich and Spinal Cord Injury Center of the University Hospital Balgrist (“double-professorship”); since 2010 he has been full professor for Sensory-Motor Systems at the Mechanical Engineering Department of ETH Zurich. Riener has published more than 400 peer-reviewed journal and conference articles, 20 books and book chapters and filed 20 patents. He has received 18 personal distinctions and awards including the Swiss Technology Award in 2006, the IEEE TNSRE Best Paper Award 2010, and the euRobotics Technology Transfer Awards 2011 and 2012. Riener’s research focuses on the investigation of the sensory-motor actions in and interactions between humans and machines. This includes the design of novel user-cooperative robotic devices and virtual reality technologies applied to neurorehabilitation. Riener is the inventor and organizer of the Cybathlon 2016.

    Stacy is the Product Manager and a senior analyst for TechInsight’s Teardown group in Austin, Tx. For more than twenty years she has worked in the high tech industry and her experience includes computer manufacturing processes and hardware engineering design support. Stacy has been a part of the Teardown team analyzing consumer electronics for almost a decade.

    Biography

    Brent Edwards, Ph.D., has spent 19 years as an executive in the hearing industry with a distinguished career in research and technology. He has made presentations at over 100 conferences, is an inventor on over 20 patents, and has published extensively in professional and trade publications on technology and market trends. Edwards founded the Starkey Hearing Research Center that is currently a leading site for research in hearing impairment, and his research into the effect of hearing technology on cognition created an international growth of research in this area.

    Biography

    Patrick Hoese is a Senior Corporate Advisor at Handicap International. He studied Political Sciences, European Law and Economics and has more than 10 years experience in worldwide projects working withdifferent international Non Profit Organizations (NPO).
    At Handicap International he is responsible for the development of new corporate partnerships. His focal point concentrates on building sustainable and long-term cooperations which ideally combine the core businesses of companies and/or csr strategies with related projects of the worldwide operating NPO Handicap International.
    Handicap International is an independent NPO working in situations of poverty and exclusion, conflict and disaster in around 60 countries worldwide. The main task of Handicap International is to meet the basic needs of disabled and vulnerable people, improve their living conditions and promote respect for their dignity and fundamental rights.
    Three international awards have been awarded to Handicap International: 2011 the Hilton Humanitarian Prize, 1997 co-recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize and 1996 The Nansen Refugee Award.

    Biography

    Bandar heads Jawbone’s Special Projects division. He is responsible for exploring innovative and new product, branding, and business opportunities that strategically align with Jawbone’s roadmap. Since joining Jawbone in 2008, he has established much of the company’s international business including its global distribution agreements, online businesses as well as international public relations, marketing and business development efforts. Prior to Jawbone, Bandar spent 4 years in the Middle East managing business development for a private conglomerate in Telecoms, Industrial Services, and Construction, where he secured over 200M USD in new revenues. Bandar has also worked in Venture Capital in Paris, investing in next generation wireless and optical technologies. Additionally, during University in 2000, Bandar co-founded a startup in online software collaboration. Bandar is based in London, and holds both a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and an M.S. in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University.

    Biography

    Zack received his B.S. in Microelectronic Engineering from Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) in 2013 and is now a second-year Ph.D. candidate in the Novel Devices Lab (NDL) at the University of Cincinnati (UC). The NDL performs highly multidisciplinary research in electrofluidics and biosensors, spanning fundamental science to more applied work through industrial partnerships. Furthermore, the NDL has the practical knowledge, facilities, and a strong track-record for rapidly transforming novel concepts into commercially viable prototypes. Here, Zack's research focuses in continuous health monitoring devices with a specific focus on non-invasive techniques for biomarker extraction.

  • Julien Penders, Bloom Technologies

    Julien Penders, Bloom Technologies

    Biography

    Julien Penders is co-founder of Bloom Technologies, a consumer health company dedicated to helping moms raise healthy happy families, with the vision to leverage the transformational experience of pregnancy and childbirth to drive behavior change towards healthy living for mom, baby, and family. Julien is also Program Director at imec where he leads the wearable healthcare activities for North America. Prior to this position, Julien served as Program Manager at the Holst Centre / imec, where he led the activities on Body Area Networks. Julien has led wearable health projects for market leaders in both the medical and consumer spaces. He has (co-) authored over 60 papers and 7 patents in the field of wearable technologies and connected health. He has been a keynote or invited speakers at multiple public events and conferences, including TEDx and the Creativity World Forum. He is general co-chair for the Wireless Health conference, serves on the IEEE Technical Committee on Biomedical Health Informatics, and sits on the Program Committees for several international conferences. Julien was a 2004/2005 fellow of the Belgian American Educational Foundation. He holds a M.Sc. degree in Systems Engineering from University of Liege, Belgium (2004), and a M.Sc. degree in Biomedical Engineering from Boston University, MA (2006).

    Biography

    Blake is the Co-Founder and Creative Director of Zinc, a Design & Innovation Lab in Barcelona. Blake brings 20 years experience of human centered design and innovation, working around the world across many different categories. Blake’s career includes 12 years at Smart Design, where he worked at their New York studio for 5 years before coming to Europe to establish and lead their European studio in Barcelona for 7 years. At Smart Design, he helped many Blue Chip brands with innovation challenges, bringing new products and services to life in both the physical and digital worlds. His clients included HP, Vodafone, Microsoft, Panasonic, Novo Nordisk and many others, and many of those projects were about designing integrated physical & digital experiences. Now at Zinc, he collaborates with both startups and established brands, helping them to integrate new technologies into compelling experiences for users and society at large. Blake was the Creative Director on the collaboration with Bloom, responsible for the design of both the wearable devices and the mobile App. Blake is a regular public speaker on design, and also a visiting lecturer at ESADE Business School on Design Thinking.

    As founder and CEO Christian Stammel has more than 20 years’ experience in marketing and sales as well as an excellent international network. Using this expertise he supported numerous international companies of all sizes regarding business development, technology marketing, and increase of sales activities with his innovation and marketing company Navispace AG. The natural next step to Navispace’s huge success “Wearable Technology” was the incorporation of the Wearable Technologies AG in 2011. Since then, WT served as a business accelerator for more than 3000 renowned companies and will remain the key hub for marketing new technologies in this field in the years to come.

    Biography

    Schooled as a mechanical engineer with a specialisation in medical engineering Michiel started his ceramic career in 2007. Since 2011 as the Managing Director of Formatec Ceramics. During this period a rich experience of ceramic applications was obtained. Mainly working in the high end watch, jewellery and writing instrument market. Next to the injection moulding experiences Michiel co-founded a new company called Admatec Europe BV focussing on printing high dense ceramic parts, for technical purposes, but also for aesthetical purposes.

    Dr. Dipl. Psych Marc Thom is responsible for companion products and smartwear in Central Europe. After studying medicine and psychology he joined the Sony family in Düsseldorf where he is working on different topics for special use cases in SmartWear. Two of these are creating carefreeness for costumers in mHealth and finding algorithms for personalized medicine 2.0.

    Biography

    Franz Josef Pschierer has been a member of the Bavarian State Parliament (Landtag) since 17 October 1994. From 2003 to 2008 he was Chairman of the Committee for Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology. Pschierer was State Secretary in the Bavarian Ministry of Finance between 2008 and 2013. From May 2009 to October 2013 he also had the function of IT Commissioner of the Bavarian State Government. Since 10 October 2013, Franz Josef Pschierer has been State Secretary in the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs and the Media, Energy and Technology.

    Biography

    Andrea joined STMicroelectronics' R&D Lab in Castelletto, Italy, in 1990 as designer of mixed signal audio IC’s for both consumer and car radio applications. After five years of successful activity with several patents in the Audio field, he moved to Product Management, in charge of Marketing for Consumer Audio and had the full responsibility of design, marketing and application for Audio Systems products. In 2005, Andrea’s organization was transformed into a Product and his scope was subsequently enlarged to include management in Planning, Operation and Quality of Audio products. Andrea Onetti became general manager of the division with a portfolio including Audio, catalog analog standard products, Space, Defense and Automotive, analog ASIC’s for consumer applications and low power wireless solutions. In August 2014 Andrea Onetti’s responsibilities were further extended with his appointment as head of the Volume MEMS & Analog Division which encompasses ST’s industry-leading consumer motion MEMS activities as well as the portfolio of the former Analog and Audio Systems Division.

    Nick Spencer manages the analyst resources for mobile devices and applications research at ABI Research. As an individual contributor to ABI Research’s mobile devices team, he focuses on mobile devices (hardware & software), go-to-market strategy, and mobile developer ecosystems. Nick has over 13 years of experience in mobile technology research and marketing.
    Before joining ABI Research, Nick managed BlackBerry’s market intelligence team in EMEA for nearly five years where he analyzed market trends and data regarding the mobile devices, hardware, software, content, and applications market. Nick’s research and analysis at BlackBerry contributed to sales, marketing and R&D initiatives using subscription and custom research suppliers, including analyst firms, management consultants and primary research firms.
    Prior to that Nick was an industry analyst at both Canalys and Yankee Group with a focus on smartphones and enterprise mobility software respectively.

    Biography

    Jérémie Bouchaud is unique to the MEMS industry – his breadth of MEMS device and application knowledge is unmatched, particularly in terms of automotive, consumer markets and RF MEMS. He was a founder and head of MEMS research for Wicht Technologie Consulting. At IHS, Bouchaud is responsible for the MEMS service area. In the course of his career, he has led more than 100 MEMS-related market research endeavors. Prior to WTC, he oversaw technology transfer for sensors and MEMS at the German office of CEA-LETI.
    Bouchaud is a graduate of the Munich University of Applied Sciences and of Ecole Supérieur de Commerce of Grenoble. He speaks German, English and French.

    Biography

    André Aldejohann is a senior executive with 20 years international experience in the telecommunication, online services and media sector. He has worked for Siemens, Bertelsmann and Deutsche Telekom in various position and has a proven track record in strategy, business development, product marketing and partnering.

    Currently André is VP Internet & Software Partnerships at Deutsche Telekom AG where he has developed a new successful digital services business with international services and hardware partners with annual revenues of 200 m Euros. Since mid of 2014 he is also responsible to set up an international wearable device portfolio and platform to position Deutsche Telekom AG as an important player in this business.

    Andre holds both a master degree in Electrical Engineering from Technische Universität München (TUM) and a master degree in Business Administration from FernUniversität Hagen.

    Sensoria designs and develops a bio-sensing platform which includes an integrated suite of heart rate monitoring t-shirts, a sports bras and a pressure sensitive smart socks. Davide is a former Microsoft Executive with over 25 years of sales, marketing and product management experience. Joined the Mac Works, Mac Office teams in 1987 and more recently served as General Manager of the Health Solutions Group where he was in charge of marketing and product strategy for both HealthVault and Amalga product lines. He acted as Vice President of the Worldwide Small and Medium Business division which he grew 18% YOY to over $14B.

His first startup venture was in 2011 where he helped over 5 different startups engineer and develop their software systems. His areas of expertise are Motion capture, game development, 3D and generic software development. He sees entrepreneurship as an investment in his society’s future and the perfect way to make things better around us. His unquenchable fascination of learning how things work and his mantra of patience and hard work led Heddoko to the top 3 companies at the “International Stratup Festival”, and Finishing top 2 at the “Founder Institute Program”.

    Donato is a young entrepreneur with over 10 years’ experience in the electronic engineering sector. Donato holds a Master Degree in IT Systems Engineering for Business Management and an MBA in Innovation Management and Engineering Services. During his studies he was a member of the Board of Directors of several public sector companies, he then co-founded Winmedical and was appointed CEO.

  • Zeev Zalevsky, FabriXense

    Zeev Zalevsky, FabriXense

    Biography

    Zeev Zalevsky received his B.Sc. and direct Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Tel-Aviv University in 1993 and 1996 respectively. Zeev is currently a full Professor in the faculty of engineering in Bar-Ilan University, Israel. His major fields of research are optical super resolution, biomedical optics, nano-photonics and photonic sensing.
    Zeev has published more than 360 refereed journal papers, more than 200 conference proceeding papers, more than 335 international presentations out of which more than 110 were invited or plenary, 37 issued patents, 6 authored books, 3 books as an editor and 27 book chapters. He has received several national and international research awards for his work.
    Zeev is currently the vice Dean of engineering, the head of the electro-optics track and a director of the nano photonics center at the institute of nanotechnology of Bar-Ilan University. Zeev is also the founder of several start-up companies.

    Rob Schield has been a firefighter for over 22 years. In 2006 he decided to film incidents with a small helmet camera attached to his fire helmet. From there he started the rapidly growing company called "Fire Cam®" which now manufactures High Definition Body Worn and Fire Helmet Cameras™ for the Police and Fire Service Industry today. In 2013 Fire Cam partnered with the Australian company "m-View" to provide a software service for live video streaming. The partnership developed "ONCALL" which is a LIVE video streaming and GPS solution that integrates police body worn and firefighter helmet cameras, allowing command or dispatchers to view the LIVE situation or incident anywhere in the world. This innovative technology has changed the industry standard. Even though Rob is constantly busy developing new video products for the fire service, customer service is always at the top of Fire Cam's list. Gaining support for excellent customer service, Fire Cam has sold over 300,000 units globally in the past 3 years and is on mark to become the leader in situational awareness video.

    Steve Leftly is a world-leading expert in the field of electronic textiles and has worked as research scientist in the smart textiles field for over 18 years. Steve worked as research leader for the international textile technology firm Canesis for 12 years developing highly functional textiles. During this time he the co-invented Softswitch technology, set up the Softswitch Ltd company and has also authored many other electronic textile technology patents. In 2004 Steve was tasked by a US investment team to set up a new company, Fibretronic Limited, to develop and manufacture leading textile electronic solutions. Over the last 10 years Steve has been working with many global garment brands, such as Levis, Nike, Adidas, and the North Face, to develop and commercialise their wearable electronic product solutions including the world’s first garment integrated electronics for Apple Inc. Steve is currently leading a research team for Sentrix Technology working on textile based wearable technology products for sensing, thermal comfort and actuation applications in the sports therapy and heath care markets. Recently he has co-founded and launched a new sports therapy product Myovolt.

    Hans has a lifetime passion for wireless technology, products, and music. Since his first job in Japan, he has developed wireless consumer and professional grade products. A serial entrepreneur, Hans created several companies that designed silicon for low data rate wireless sensor networks (Adcon and Silicon Labs), wireless Home audio (TSMC), and several other professional and consumer products. He co-authored the IEEE802.15.4 standard and worked in the team who created the Zigbee alliance in 1999.

Pivoting on a career as an engineer with a background in solar energy, commercial building product design and environmental sustainability, he has been blessed with the ability to relate to customers, cast a vision for partners, and successfully launch and refine innovative products.

    Since 2011, Eddie has been serving as Director, DC Structures & Field Technology at First Solar. First Solar, FLSR (NASDAQ) is an industry leading, vertically integrated, photovoltaic module manufacturer, solar power plant developer, engineering, procurement, and construction company. Eddie currently heads up a team of structural, mechanical, and electrical engineers who design advanced DC structures for both utility and distributed energy market segments.

    Before starting a new career in solar energy, Eddie spent over 30 years at Kawneer Company in North America, where he led various Product Design, Product Engineering, and Project Engineering teams. Kawneer became part of Alcoa, AA (NYSE) in 1998, and his departing position was Director, Sustainable Solutions. For over 100 years, Kawneer has been considered to be a worldwide leader in architectural aluminum building materials.

    Eddie graduated from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering. He is a licensed Professional Engineer in the state of Virginia, and a LEED Accredited Professional (BD+C).
    Eddie continues to play a lot of tennis and provides instruction for adult and junior players. He is blessed with a wonderful wife, church, and family. He loves music, snowboarding, and fishing.
