2018 is full of innovations in the wearables and IoT space and we can´t wait to excite you with our conference program at the 29th WT | Wearable Technologies Conference in San Francisco on July 11-12! Key topics will include Digitization, A.I., Industry Disruption, Blockchain, Smart Healthcare and AR. The motto of this year’s show is (Wo)man meets Machine!
Highlights 2018
Day one will be opened by a story of the first commercially successful wearable brand. GoPro’s Vice President Product Meghan Laffey will tell the story of GoPro’s founder Nick Woodman – a surfer, skier and motorsports enthusiast in search of a better way to film himself and his friends surfing. What started with a 35mm camera and a wrist strap made from old wetsuits and plastic scraps has grown into an international company that so far has sold over 26 million GoPro cameras in more than 100 countries.
Digitization across industries is inevitable. We will show different cases in different industries and are proud to have Vinicius Senger, Senior Technical Evangelist of Amazon Web Services on board for this session who will discuss how we can apply IoT and Wearable technology to develop projects for healthcare showing live-demos and niche use-cases. How can voice assistants, like Alexa, aggregate value providing a voice interface to your sensor data generated by IoT / Wearable devices?
NASA’s Cody Wayne Burkhart will be showing the unique challenges which exercising in space poses. Without exercise, astronauts can lose up to 15 percent of their muscle mass, some of it permanently. The Advanced Resistive Exercise Device (ARED) investigation uses a piston and flywheel system to simulate free-weight exercises in normal gravity to work all the major muscle groups through squats, dead lifts, and calf raises. Learn how wearables are used in this context.
What the future holds for connected implants will be outlined by Dr. Arun Venkatasubramanian, Associated Director for Connected Implants at Cambridge Consultants. Their system provides flexible, efficient and safe wireless power transfer to devices inside the body without having to worry about precise alignment with the implant, and regardless of the size and body shape of the patient. The breakthrough promises to free up patients who currently have to spend 4-6 hours per charge cycle charging up their implant batteries.
Another breakthrough innovation comes with Energous’s WattUp technology, taking wireless charging to the next level. The solution has recently received Federal Communications Commission certification and CEO Stephen Rizzone will tell us what an ecosystem of complete mobility means.
Anna Jarman will give her unique perspective on Connected Worker Platforms in Energy. Shell’s Investment Associate will give examples on how wearables can be used to improve worker safety in this industry.
The excitement will continue on the second day – we are delighted to welcome Sean Sansiveri, VP Business and Legal Affairs of the NFL Players Association, on stage. How can wearables support professional football players to perform at their best? Use case examples will give the answer to this question and exclusive insights about requirements and usage/ marketing of data.
