Telit, the Italy-based global enabler of IoT announced that it will be among the first providers of IoT modules based on the just announced Qualcomm 9205 LTE modem. Qualcomm’s next-gen modem is built for Internet of Things (IoT) applications such as asset trackers, health monitors, security systems, smart city sensors and smart meters, as well as a range of wearable trackers. The new Qualcomm 9205 LTE modem is unique in bringing together key innovations required to build cellular-enabled IoT products and services in a single chipset, including global multimode LTE category M1 (eMTC) and NB2 (NB-IoT) as well as 2G/E-GPRS connectivity, application processing, geolocation, hardware-based security, support for cloud services and accompanying developer tools.

Using the ultra-compact chipset, Telit will be able to meet the strong demand for ultra-small modules for wearable medical devices, fitness trackers and industrial sensors as well as deliver 3GPP Release 14 functionality for the first time in its portfolio, said a press release.
Telit’s first products based on the Qualcomm 9205 LTE modem include the new xE310 family of LTE-M and NB-IoT modules. With one of the smallest form factors available in the market, the new form factor family includes support for 2G fallback and GNSS location technology.
The company will also apply the Qualcomm 9205 LTE modem in new members of the ME910x1 and xL865 module families, addressing IoT applications with Release 14 and other exacting technical and cost requirements. The new xE310, xE910 and xL865 products are ideal for future-proofing existing IoT applications on the road to 5G.

Manish Watwani, Telit’s Executive Vice President of global product management, said the new IoT module based on Qualcomm 9205 LTE modem is the latest example of how his company is leading the way with IoT module solutions based on Qualcomm Technologies’ innovations. “Our new xE310, xE910 and xL865 modules will meet skyrocketing demand for ultra-compact, affordable and power-efficient solutions that leverage fast-growing LTE-M and NB-IoT mobile networks,” he said.
Telit IoT modules based on the Qualcomm 9205 LTE modem will be available for sampling in H1 2019.
