Language is very important for communication. Hearing a different language may sound beautiful in your ears, but at the same time it’s meaningless if you do not know that language. Your vacation to an exotic country would become more enjoyable if you knew the language of that land.
Shenzhen, China & Pasadena, CA-based startup Timekettle has developed WT2 translator – an in-ear translator for real-time, natural and hands-free communication.
Called the WT2 Plus, the device is meant to be worn by 2 people, so they can talk freely and naturally while speaking in different languages. The device fits in the user’s ear, and translates their speech into more than 20 languages.
At the CES 2019 in Las Vegas this week the company showcased the US $219 pair of buds, which are designed to connect to a single Android or iOS smartphone via Bluetooth. Once languages are selected via the smartphone app, the earbuds allow for completely hands-free two-way conversations, reports The Sunday Morning Herald.
A third “Speaker” mode allows one person to wear an earbud while the other person interacts with their smartphone. This allows the other person to both see and hear translations, as well as reply using the phone’s built-in microphone.
The earbuds offer a 3-hour battery life, with the supplied carry case able to fully recharge them twice.
The device is ideal for travel enthusiasts, expats, international shops, homestay students, cross-cultural families, hotels and others in between.
