Ricard is trained as a Mathematician and an Engineer, he obtained his Ph.D. on biomedical image analysis from the EPFL within the SystemsX.ch consortium, the Swiss research initiative for the promotion of Systems Biology. He was awarded with the SSBE Research Award 2013 from the Swiss Society of Biomedical Engineering for the best PhD thesis, and the ABB Award 2014 for his “contributions to the field of bioimage informatics.”
Currently, he is a member of the Expert Group in Digital Health in the Swiss Alliance for Data-Intensive Services and his group focuses on AI applied to biomedical embedded systems, wearable technology, and their impact on the future of healthcare and the MedTech industry, with more than 60 scientific publications on the topic.
Abstract:
CSEM has been developing the next generation of multi-parameter vital signs monitoring systems. Starting from years of research, CSEM reduced the cumbersomeness of the usage of cabled devices to truly wearable technology that continuously measures multiple health-relevant physiological signals of patients suffering from cardiopulmonary diseases under ambulatory conditions. The resulting wearables are comfortable and intuitive to use, paving the way to the new era of digital personalized healthcare. Currently, CSEM develops integrated circuits for its sensing approach and in the future its cooperative sensors will be small like buttons.
