Running shoe maker Brooks has announced the first personalized performance running shoe. The shoe dubbed Brooks Genesys will be available for runners in the United States in early 2019 and available globally soon after the U.S. launch, according to the company.

Back in December, Brooks partnered with HP Inc. for the development of its customized performance running shoe. The Genesys will be custom-built for the individual runner based on his or her biomechanics, captured with HP’s FitStation technology.

“At Brooks we are focused on developing industry-leading innovations that deliver the best experience for runners. To achieve this vision, we continue to invest in in-depth biomechanics research and partnerships with key industry leaders,” said Patrick Pons de Vier, Brooks’ senior vice president of global footwear. “We believe the future of performance running is personalization, and the Brooks Genesys is the first step in delivering this experience to runners.”

FitStation powered by HP is pioneering hardware and software that merges 3D foot scanning with dynamic gait analysis and foot pressure measurements. Totally aligned with concepts from Brooks Run Signature, FitStation offers customers extensive investigation including key motion zones to pinpoint the individual motion path of the runner’s body and data about the desired running experience. FitStation generates an exceptional comprehensive digital profile of a person that’s an amalgamation of biomechanics, personal fit,  and experience.

To make the personalized Genesys for each runner, Brooks incorporates the runner’s digital profile with the company’s Run Signature principles, which suggest the best way to improve comfort and boost performance is to design running shoe that works in accordance with the runner’s natural motion path of their body.

The process starts with scanning your feet with FitStation powered by HP. The process captures data such as 3D foot scans and foot pressure measurement which help FitStation create a digital profile based on your biomechanics, including gait pattern and the length and width of each foot.

The resulting data is interpreted into specific feel and fit requirements for each shoe and constructed using a state-of-the-art DESMA polyurethane injection-molding machine.

The shoes aren’t available just yet, but the company said the Genesys will be launched in the United States with 1,914 limited-edition pairs which will be available through special order via select retailers in early 2019.
