The future is Virtual Reality (VR) but it lacks a good set of VR glasses. The conventional VR glasses are cumbersome and do not deliver high quality image. Now, Panasonic wants to change all that with its new VR glasses. The company showed off its new HDR-capable VR at the recently concluded CES 2020 in Las Vegas.

The company said its VR glasses offer ultra-high definition quality and High Dynamic Range but look a feel more like an ordinary pair of eyeglasses.
The VR glasses weigh around 150 grams, making it much lighter than the Oculus Quest, which weighs around 570 grams, according to Panasonic.
Panasonic calls these glasses a prototype. They have eye cups and solid frame arms that head back to a set of earbuds. They deliver UltraHD (at least 4K) resolution, which is enough to remove the “screen door” effect you can get on lower-resolution glasses.
“Though I only spent a few minutes with its 60 Hz display, I twisted the inter-pupillary distance (IPD) mechanism (said to adjust from below 60 millimeters to more than 70 millimeters) near the bridge of the glasses and tuned the lenses directly in front of my eyes. Then I found myself observing crisp text and recall no impression of a screen door effect. I enjoyed a look inside a temple that seemed to live up to the promise of extremely high resolution high-dynamic range panel,” reports Ian Hamilton in Venture Beat.
Panasonic doesn’t plan on selling these to consumers but they hope these glasses will be used in commercial applications like VR sports and travel. However, to be able to support high data-transfer speeds, it’ll have to wait until the 5G networks are rolled out.
