In bid to capture potential tech hotspot, Nreal, a Beijing-based manufacturer of smartglasses is pushing ahead with its new Mixed-Reality glasses that project impressive immersive videos, games and characters into your field of vision.

Showcased at the MWC 2019, the Nreal ‘Light’ is a pair of “ready-to-wear” glasses with great display and a lightweight design, making it feel like you were wearing a pair of sunglasses.
In February, the company raised $16 million in additional funding after $15 million it already raised at the CES 2019 tech trade show in Las Vegas. The latest round of funding was backed by China Everbright Limited New Economy Fund, iQiyi, Shunwei Capital, and China Growth Capital, reports Venture Beat.
“China Everbright Limited New Economy Fund has always been keen on the investment on those start-ups who are tech-driven and capable to commercialize its products,” said Victor Ai, managing director of China Everbright.
The Nreal Light resemble Snapchat Spectacles. The glasses have a wire that comes out of one its arms, and connects to a miniature puck housing the electronics powering the device.
The glasses can also be powered by smartphones that run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 855 5G mobile platform.
They’re designed to look more like sunglasses than regular glasses. It has a remarkably wide 52-degree field of view (FoV) and high-definition 1080p resolution. The glasses weigh only 3 ounces, which is not much more than a regular pair of glasses, and according to the company, they can be worn for hours at a time.
Nreal also unveiled foldable temples, a new feature in MR glasses. With this new feature, you can tuck these glasses in your pocket or carry them in a case.

“Foldable temples might seem trivial at first glance, but it’s never been achieved before due to its technical complexity and marks an important milestone for Nreal,” said Xu, in a statement. “We’re pushing the boundaries to move MR hardware closer to mimicking the familiar sunglass form factor that people recognize, and ultimately closer to mass adoption.”
Nreal was founded by Chi Xu, a former engineer at Magic Leap in 2017.
